  21. ((MODERATORS' COMMENT: We've read a bit of discussion about UFOs,
  22. "hackers," and guerilla investigators. Whether myth or reality, the
  23. discussions represent a segment of computer culture that others might
  24. find interesting. So, we run the following as a reflection of one
  25. segment of the culture that, even if myth, raises that age-old
  26. question: Is it live, or is it memorex?)).

  28. Rumors have begun to surface about a group of hackers who were
  29. involved in a project to uncover information regarding the existence
  30. of UFOs.  The most public example pertaining to this alleged project
  31. was seen on Dateline NBC on the screen of the mystery hacker
  32. "Quentin."
  33.  
  34. The story goes that this group of individuals decided to put their
  35. skills to work on a project that, if successful, would legitimize the
  36. hacking process by uncovering information on what has been called the
  37. greatest cover-up in the history of the world.  Milnet TAC ID cards
  38. were obtained through military officials sympathetic to the cause.
  39. Several sites and networks were targeted that had in the past been
  40. linked to UFO activity.  These were sites like the Jet Propulsion
  41. Laboratory, Sandia Labs, TRW Space Research, American Institute of
  42. Physics, and various other educational, government and military sites.
  43.  
  44. The rumors also emphasize that several sites had what these
  45. individuals called "particularly heavy security."  Within several
  46. seconds after connection had been established, system administrators
  47. of sites used in this project were contacted.  Further rumors state
  48. that there was information regarding a propulsion system designed
  49. utilizing what is termed "corona discharge" being analyzed at one
  50. site.  The most sinister of all rumors states that one particular
  51. participant who was allegedly deeply immersed in TRWs internal network
  52. has not been heard from since uncovering data regarding a saucer being
  53. housed at one of their Southern California installations.

  55. Believe what you will about the reality of this project.  Much will be
  56. dismissed as hacker lore, but within the core of every rumor lies a
  57. grain of truth.

  60. NSA?  What are they hiding from us behind a maze of security?  Will we
  61. continue to stand idly by and let an uncaring and deliberately evasive
  62. government shield us from what may be the most important, and

  64. free, and only a concerted group effort can make this happen.  How

  503. The obvious question that comes to my mind is the real purpose behind this
  504. alleged "document" made by secret hackers accessing government systems, 
  505. looking for UFO files.
  506.  
  507. Was the document put together by the hackers themselves through preliminary 
  508. searches, or by somebody reading up on the paranet archives thoroughly and 
  509. writing down any relevant information?
  510.  
  511. Let us suppose for a moment that the information presented here is real,
  512. and that these so-called hackers actually accessed US military computers
  513. around the nation, and managed to grab this stuff.  If so, then several
  514. current ideas about certain UFO authors are contradicted and in question.
  515.  
  516. If the William Moore/Stanton Friedman/Jamie Shandera involvement with the
  517. MJ-12 documents are forgeries, meant to feed disinformation to the public,
  518. then why are they on the government shit list?  If it was just Moore who  
  519. was an alleged "government disinformation agent", and the other two were
  520. not, why include his name?  Just to say he wasn't?  This just points to 
  521. more disinformation.

  523. If the MJ-12 documents released by Moore ARE true, then why include
  524. Shandera on the "shit list"?  Previously, Shandera had absolutely nothing
  525. to do with UFOs or UFOlogy, and [as far as I know] nothing to do with it
  526. since the papers were released.  Shandera is a television producer in
  527. California and just happened to know Moore.  Furthermore, wouldn't the
  528. person who "leaked" this information to Moore be at the top of the "shit
  529. list" rather than Moore?  Bob Lazar is, and he leaks a lot.  Why are only 
  530. public names we already know on the government shit list, which is secret 
  531. anyway?  There is something amiss here.

  533. The first two names are more plausable realistically.  Major Donald Keyhoe 
  534. got his plug pulled on national television about UFOs.  If Robert Lazar 
  535. isn't the hoax of the last couple of years, then his name makes sense also.  
  536. The last name on the list, Timothy Goode, probably one of the leading 
  537. UFOlogists in the UK, is probable.  However, if he is on the "government 
  538. shit list", why not other known and predominant UFOlogists in THIS country?  
  539. Why not Michael Corbin and Don Allen, just to name a few?  If we include 
  540. the UK in all of this, why not add Jenny Randles, too?  
  541.  
  542. Finally, the last name is very skeptical.  If this was a real document
  543. collected from real government computers, why would Whitley Streiber's name
  544. be on it?  Many in the UFO community consider him a certifiable nut-case
  545. and a fraud.  He says the same about UFOlogists.  If the guy really is
  546. crazy--his books about aliens just keep getting weirder and weirder--then
  547. the government would have no plausable argument for putting him on the list.

  549. Also, the list only gives 3 different UFO crashes other than Roswell.  Does
  550. that mean no other UFO's ever came down, or just that there's no information?
  551.  
  552. Please note that no mention of abductions are made.
  553.  
  554. Now, let's take the flip-side.  The document was not precured by a group of
  555. LOD-type hackers, but by one or several people who put this information
  556. together from various sources.  I return to my original question--why?
  557.  
  558. If it is a disinformation paper, why go through the trouble of putting all
  559. of this together, typing up this entire document, but filled with things
  560. that most of us already knew in advance.  If it was not a government-
  561. written document, but outsiders, the paper really serves no purpose.
  562.  
  563. However, there are a few new bits of information that I had not previously 
  564. known before which may or may not effect the credibility of the document.
  565. I do not pretend to know everything about UFOs or documents relating to
  566. them, and the information presented in the file may or may not be new to
  567. your eyes--some of it was to mine.
  568.  
  569. For instance, I have never heard of the saucers out in Area 51 using a
  570. "corona discharge" propulsion system.  I might have missed the term some-
  571. place, but if it is connected I would like to know so I could correct
  572. myself.

  574. If NORAD and SPACECOM track UFOs, why scramble F-14s for interception?  Why
  575. not a high-altitude fighter, such as an F-15, which has more land-based
  576. capability then a naval fighter?
  577.  
  578. The seemingly shocking line, "Robert Lazar talked!" implies it was a new
  579. found revelation.  Yes, he did talk--a couple of years ago.
  580.  
  581. Sandia labs is a revelation--I have never heard it mentioned before.  Nor
  582. the related Project Beta.  
  583.  
  584. In conclusion, this whole document appears to be an outline of UFO
  585. and government activity for the past forty-five years or so.  It looks to
  586. be authentic in the way that much time has gone into it, the author appears
  587. to have a fair knowledge of UFOlogy.  I have explained previously the
  588. immediate problems I see.
  589.  
  590. The premise behind these UFO hackers is a good one, but no real proof 
  591. exists that they actually did break into Defense Department systems.  If we 
  592. hear nothing else from these hackers, or from the sender, we may conclude 
  593. that the posting was merely informational and nothing more than that.  
  594. However, if there are constant revisions to these projects, what are we to 
  595. think?  Where do we go from here?
  596.  
  597. Finally, what are these supposed hackers really doing for the UFO community?
  598. Helping solve the mysteries, or just further damaging it's already stained
  599. reputation?  If the information was collected from government installations
  600. then these hackers are violating law by breaking into these systems.  The
  601. idea that they want to "legitimize the hacking process" through illegal
  602. actions is a contradiction in itself.  There is no legitimate reason why
  603. people snort coke or shoot complete strangers for their Air Jordans.  If
  604. the hackers use their talents for the "good" of the UFO community and the
  605. world, who will ultimately reep the benefits of this ill wind?
